Course Description
Prerequisites: POLS 1101 and ENGL 1102 with a minimum grade of C. This course examines the political theories that have shaped cultural, economic, and institutional development in the modern West. By reading classic philosophical texts written by some of histories most influential thinkers, the course focuses on the transition from an agriculturally grounded society, to today's modern democratic political and economic systems. The course readings focus on the works of Machiavelli, Rousseau, Smith, Madison, Nietzsche, Marx, and Weber.
