BIOL 3401 - Medical Ethics

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to deal effectively with issues within medical ethics by providing a detailed introduction to core ethical issues in medical ethics and public policy. Topics include ethical theories, contemporary approaches to medical ethics, doctor-patient relationship, confidentiality, truth-telling, autonomy, paternalism, and informed consent, abortion, cloning/embryo selection/genetic screening/eugenics, euthanasia/physician-assisted suicide/life support in vegetative state, performance-enhancing drugs. Prerequisite(s) BIOL 1108 +BIOL 1108L  or BIOL 1108H , with a minimum grade of C.
